Let me tell you a story, from when dinosaurs walked the earth…
So:
When I was a kid, there was no such thing as the Internet.
Yes, it’d been invented.
But hardly anyone knew what it was. Or was using it.
It wasn’t until I was in high school before it really started gaining traction.
And there was a time when… it was so hyped up that… almost every company on earth (probably) was trying to milk it for all it was worth, and squeeze every dime and dollar outta it until they could wring it totally dry.
But ‘savvy’ companies and entrepreneurs did this by trying to get anything that walked on two legs to invest in the medium.
Investing in domain names.
Investing in building a website for themselves.
Or for their brand.
Or business.
And trying to get people investing in…
… hyped up companies…
… that were so ‘knee deep’ on the World Wide Web that apparently, for technical reasons the average layman couldn’t understand…
… were gonna go…
… to the MOON!
And not only were they gonna go to the moon, but…
… a couple years later…
… they even came back!
And crash landed!
On rocky earth!
With an impact so hard that aliens on the moon could probably see all the companies, investors, and entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes who got totally wiped out.
Because the ‘Internet’ didn’t meet expectations.
And didn’t make people all the money they said it would.
Welcome, my friend, to what a Stanford computer scientist and head of the Institute of the Future, Roy Amara, called:
“The Hype Cycle”!
Which is just a fancy term for…
New technologies and industries that get so hyped up, and so heavily invested in, that they eventually come crashing back down. Because the technology just isn’t mature enough to support what people thought it could do.
Or even what they promised it could do.
Which is what happened to the Internet.
In what a lot of people now call the “Dot Com Boom”.
And it happened with mobile phones. It happened with the GPS. It happened with DNA testing. It happened with crypto and NFTs.
And right now, it’s happening… with…
… A.I.!
At least I think it is.
I believe it is.
Because of how AI is constantly being overpromised, and underdelivered. Just like it always does at the start of The 10-Year Hype Cycle. A cycle that begins with a ‘gold rush’ of fortune-seeking ‘miners’ chasing after fool’s gold.
Like how 9-figure and 10-figure companies who thought that AI was so godlike, it could do all their copywriting for them…
… fired all their copywriters…
But:
Several months later, they got shocked out of their skins in complete astonishment at how their profits were ‘bleeding out of every orifice’, forcing them to get all their former copywriters on the phone so they could quickly hire them back.
Or how…
Selling ‘Custom GPTs’, which was one of the hottest money-making opportunities on the planet just several months ago, met its untimely demise at the hands of OpenAI.
After they ‘twisted the faucet’.
And turned off the ability to share the custom GPTs you made with others.
Which is also why:
Almost always, when I use AI, I try to use it to create independent scripts. That don’t rely on AI to ‘live and breathe’. Like the way old-school programmers have always done.
But…
… let’s not even talk about how investors, moms, and pops in Korea…
… who withdrew all their life-savings…
… and shoveled them into the mouths of AI companies are…
… on the brink of bankruptcy because of the market crash from AI companies not even being able to turn a profit after all this time!
No.
Let’s talk about something happier.
And more cheerful.
So we can put a smile on your face.
I’m not sure when the AI hype bubble is gonna crash. Or if a miracle will happen, and it won’t crash. All I know is that… the moment a crash happens… roughly around 10 years after that, the technology either matures enough to really take off… like what happened with the Internet, mobile phones, and GPS…
… or…
… it dies in the water!
And is relegated to a very tiny, niche following of users.
And that’s the end of the Hype Cycle.
Moral of the story?
If you wanna use AI, fine. I use it too.
But use it with the Hype Cycle in mind at least. And don’t get caught up like a naive young kid who tries a sample of ‘ecstasy-laced crack candy cocaine’ given by a random stranger passing by, and gets spun into a hallucinogenic frenzy.
This is why I try my best, whenever possible, not to build any AI dependency into my work or business or tools.
As much as possible.
It’s just not mature enough for that.
And even mature technologies break all the time.
If you’ve ever dialed in to tech support, or got them on live chat, ya probably know that better than me.
Instead:
I prefer doing what the world’s greatest game designing company, Nintendo, likes to do.
Ignore the hype.
Ignore the fashionable new tech.
And go all in on… finding new ways to use… old, proven, cheap, and consistently reliable ‘tech’. Like how they ignored all the guys using the latest graphics tech, and opted to use the same old-school tech that still powers the ugly and lowly pocket calculator today. But flipped that obsolete invention into the worldwide, bestselling GameBoy.
It’s a LOT less competitive anyway.
‘Cause almost no one’s doing it.
Most people do what everyone else does.
But as for now…
… one of the oldest, most proven and profitable “technologies” known to marketers and man?
That’s been proven to work no matter the era?
And that you can bite into for fun and long-term, evergreen profit?
Copywriting!
Specifically, discovering new ways to use old copywriting.
Like I how I’ve been tapping into the latest research being done by cutting-edge neuroscientists working for Fortune 100 companies like Nike. Microsoft. And more. And figuring out how to turn copywriting into a consistently, predictable content framework, that electrifies as many parts of the brain as I can. For creating crave-inducing dopamine.
That gets you craving to consume more…
… content and copy.
And gets you remembering it much longer than usual.
And getting you to take action far more than usual.
But if you’re still stuck in the AI Hype Cycle?
My latest work might be a good place to start kicking the door down. And planning your daring escape. For an AI-free, hand-typed copy of it, here’s where you go:

The Mysterious “Door Breaking” Marketer
P.S. One of the other things about the Japanese company, Nintendo, from my latest work:
- 2 destiny-changing quotes from history’s greatest video game company, Nintendo, which have brought in billions for them, and which they use for every single product they create, every business decision they make, and is drilled into every employee starting from Day One! (These two quotes are the difference between billion-dollar companies that survive and thrive no matter what the economy throws at them, and billion-dollar companies that constantly struggle to meet the quota and survive every quarter. And yes, not only should you use this philosophy on Page 23 in every product you create if you want to recession-proof your business, but also… in every piece of content you make, if… you want your stuff to be almost impossible for the brain to ignore!)
It’s a philosophy I personally try my best to live by.
And just one of the many things I ‘dissect’ inside…
