“It’s the girls, Dad. They do funny things to me. I can’t explain it.”
So said Frank Abagnale, the world’s most famous con artist (who was featured in the blockbuster film, Catch Me If You Can, by Steven Spielberg) when his Dad asked him why he started down a life of crime.
Because…
… I guess, as they say…
“No money… no honey!”
But:
It’s crazy what people will do just to “get the chicks”.
Even crazier what they’ll do just to impress others. Even people they don’t like. And even at the expense of their lives.
Case in point:
I just finished reading this book published by a Criminology professor from the University of California.
And the book was all about his research…
… into the mindset of burglars…
… and what they’re thinking when they start robbing houses, how they do it, how they plan for it, whether they feel guilty or not, and everything that passes through their minds when they do, or do not do, every single heist.
But the single biggest reason why they steal?
And risk their life, limbs, and freedom with every new job?
It ain’t for survival, baby.
Or to feed their kids or family…
Nothing as romantic as what Hollywood or the mass news media feeds you.
The real reason:
Almost every single one of the 105 active burglars they wined, dined, interviewed, and visited their last ‘heist’ together with (something no other researcher had ever done)… used the money they stole… mainly for…
… luxuries!
Like higher-end clothes.
Better tech.
Bigger gold chains.
Alcohol. Women. Crack.
And stuff like that.
All so they could ‘dress to impress’. Because if you didn’t have those, you weren’t impressing. And this was in spite of every single one of them saying (when asked) that they only stole to ‘survive’. Or perhaps that’s their idea of how ‘survival’ works. If you’re not impressin’, you’re not livin’.
But at any rate:
It reminds me…
… never to pity a thief again…
… thinking they might be doing it to feed their starving families!
Something I’m prone to doing.
Sometimes.
But the main thing it reminds me of?
Most of the time…
… all the reasons why you think people do stuff, or even the reason why YOU do stuff, or don’t do stuff, or buy stuff, or don’t buy stuff…
It’s not the real reason at all!
Because most people are constantly ‘scamming’ themselves. Into thinking they’re doing something for some fabulously logical reason. All while the real reason lurks much deeper underneath.
Reasons that…
… the world’s top con artists, scammers, sales people, and magicians…
… spend all their life getting good at figuring out.
So they can just take a quick look at you (or listen to you), say a couple of words, and get you doing what they want, buying what they want.
Whenever they want it!
And:
It’s something that you can use too.
To get your brain, and your self…
… doing what you want, when you want, and as quickly and easily as you want.
A topic I cover in my upcoming new work, on how to “scam” your brain into doing almost everything you wanna do. Whether in marketing, business, or life. But 10x faster and easier. And better too.
But:
I’ve been taking my sweet time with this work.
Because it’s been pretty fun for me to do.
Since it’s a culmination of some of my life’s work on effortless, stress-free productivity. Something I myself use every single day.
So it’s currently at a progress rate of…
… 77% done.
Which looks like it should drop in a couple more days. Granted smooth sailing. And I’m looking forward to it.
But:
Always remember this.
No matter what you’re selling.
The real reasons why people are buying (or not buying) is almost never for the reasons you think. Or even for the reasons they think. Or say. And the more time you spend researching, observing, studying, testing, and digging out the real reasons why they’re doing what they’re doing…
… the easier your life and business will be.
