“No one can ever be a success who sells something of which he is not _____ !”
~ Gary Halbert, the most famous copywriter in history
===
A couple days ago…
I was doing my daily 10,000 steps a day walk with the wifey. When she got to talking about all the things she could be adding to the new art store she’d just set up.
“And I could add this, and I could add that, and I could sell this, and I could sell that…”
And it went the way it’d normally go.
When someone who’d just set up a new business gushes in enthusiasm and excitement at all the different things they could be selling and doing with their business.
To the point that…
… they end up adding more, and more, and more stuff to their biz.
And marketing.
And operations.
Until… it reaches a point where…
… it’s so bloated, that…
… you can hardly get any stuff done at all.
And you spend all your time rushing and running this way and that, just trying to figure out how to put out all the fires that get started. Because of all the stuff you now have. That you have to take care of. And raise. As if you gave birth to triplets and have to take care of all of them at the same time.
“What do you think?” the wifey asked me about her plans.
“Well,” I replied, “Personally, I just like to keep it simple. And just focus on selling a few stuff that I truly and genuinely love selling.”
And:
This is something that the legendary copywriter, Gary Halbert, constantly mentioned time and time again.
Selling in many cases, is gonna be hard work.
Especially when you’re just starting out.
So if you’re gonna work hard at it anyways… why wouldn’t you just work hard at selling something you love selling?
Which is probably the biggest difference between successful and unsuccessful entrepreneurs. People who sell what they love, versus people who just muck around in the trend mire, looking for the next hot money-popping trend and jumping all in to that every time.
Even though they don’t believe in what they’re selling.
To the point that you can somehow hear a slight whisper of utter revulsion at the back of their tone, text, voice, and speech.
But long story short:
Always, sell what you love.
Gonna save yourself a whole lifetime of headaches if you just do this one thing. And it’s probably the single most important principle in sales and marketing for anyone who just wants to… sell more stuff!
People ain’t dumb.
They can feel whether you love what you’re selling or not.
No matter how you try to hide it.
“What do you love selling then?” they wifey asked me.
“Hmm…”
I had to think for a while.
Because truth be told…
I’m not interested in selling or making money…
… at all!
And it’s to the point that, anyone who knows me knows that I’d rather starve than waste time selling or doing anything that I don’t personally enjoy. And I have, several times in my life. Which is always a fun experience.
Nothing wrong with fasting, now and then.
But after thinking a while…
… I replied saying:
“I personally don’t care about making money. So when I sell stuff, I don’t care about how much money it’ll make me. Or whether it’ll get me on the latest money-sucking bandwagon that everyone’s else’s hopping on. Truth be told, the only thing I’m interested in is leveling up myself and my skills. Every single day. And so, that’s why, when I sell stuff, I just sell stuff that I research, develop, and create for myself, to level up my own self… and my own skills… and my own marketing or copywriting. I never make stuff just because I want to sell it for some extra cash.”
But:
When it comes to leveling up yourself…
… and your skills….
… no matter what area of life it is…
… do you know what the most powerful principle I’ve ever found is?
That, when you truly understand, and practice, and do every single day, it instantly puts you far ahead of everyone else in your field, niche, or industry? While keeping you far away from those deadly ‘sinkholes’ that newbies and wannabes keep falling into by chasing after the latest trend, or AI, or tech, or just simply… by being a sheep and mindlessly doing what everyone else is doing?
You don’t?
Well, that principle is…
… going back to the basics.
And fundamentals of your craft.
Every single time.
And the better you get at the basics, the better you get at everything as a whole.
But it reminds me of something a martial artist once taught me…
And that’s the fact that, after you achieve a black belt level of mastery, yes there are higher levels of black belt. 1st dan, 2nd dan, 3rd dan, and so forth and so on.
But:
Truth of the matter is, all of those levels are just…
… going back to being a white belt again…
… but going deeper and deeper, into mastering the basics of the white belt and each and every new tier.
And so it is with my next work.
After going deeper into the fundamentals than has ever been dived into before with my previous works… the fundamentals of scamming your brain productive… and creating billion dollar offers and bonuses… and the power of tiny little words and wielding them to grab and keep attention like a samurai sword… plus… the absolute basics of how the brain works to process information and how you can ‘hijack’ that mental network to get people’s brains drooling out dopamine…
Yes, my next work is gonna be on:
The basics of writing.
Or more specifically, writing faster!
Because I’ve noticed that my writing speed is lagging behind my reading speed. Gotta level that up.
So I can start getting more stuff out there.
Much more quickly.
And effortlessly.
But actually:
This work is gonna be an online app.
That fixes one of the biggest problems writers have.
Whether that be writing emails, sales letters, novels, love letters, or more.
But I’m thinking of releasing it for free.
Maybe.
Since, truth be told, selling apps and software is a pain in the butt. And I’d much rather sell information, which is, personally, in my opinion, much more impactful and useful than standalone software. But… other than that, I think it’d be a fun experiment to see the quality of leads and subscribers it’ll get me.
Plus, it’ll help make writing much easier for you too.
So you can implement everything I share and teach much more effectively.
And profitably.
Especially if, like me, you’re not one to AI sloppify your content. And prefer hand-crafting your content on finger-tap at a time on a keyboard.
It’ll probably be done in a few days.
So stay tuned.
