“I make a point of asking everyone who comes to consult me: “Do you like your job?” It’s so important for the morale; a patient who is happy in his work is always much easier to cure.”

So I’m reading this novel right now:
It’s 575 chapters long.
Set in the not-so-distant future. And it’s all about this hyper-competitive VR (virtual reality) game that lots of people are playing. Because they all want to be the best at it.
But I’m loving it…
… because the main character is this clueless girl.
Who doesn’t really play games at all.
But she started playing because her best friend got her to try it. And she got hooked. In the strangest possible way. Because while she thought it was so fun, she didn’t really care about leveling up, or getting stronger, or being the best player at all.
She just wanted to have fun.
So she started doing things that no player would do.
Like putting all her stats into defense instead of offense. Because she getting hurt wasn’t fun. And crawling into holes that no one would crawl into. Because it looked fun. And using equipment in ways that no one else would ever use them. Because it was fun.
And people would look at her like:
“Are you crazy? You’re not gonna get strong doing all that.”
But she did.
And eventually became the strongest player in the game.
Because she kept discovering new ways to get stuff and do stuff that no one else had ever thought of. All because she chased after fun instead of “getting ahead” of everyone else. But she got ahead anyways, to the amazement of everyone around her. In the craziest ways possible.
But:
It reminds me of how so many people I talk with are constantly struggling to make progress in their business.
All because they’re chasing the wrong thing.
Stuff like status.
And the size of their bank balance.
When really, a lot of the problems they’re facing would just disappear if they chased after “fun” instead. And made that the main reason why they’re doing what they’re doing. Instead of just trying to make bundles of “coin”.
Not saying that money ain’t important.
But many-a-time, you’ll make way more by chasing after fun than by chasing after fortune.
And making that the main way you decide what to do…
… and when to do it.
Case in point:
A couple years back…
I was listening to this interview with world’s most famous funnel hacker, Russell Brunson. Who also owns Clickfunnels, in case you didn’t know. And he was talking about the biggest difference he’s noticed between his most successful students and his least successful students.
What’s the difference?
You probably know what I’m gonna say, but…
Whenever he asked his most successful students why they were doing what they were doing, they always talked about how it was because marketing was so much fun for them.
They got to try new stuff.
There was so much exciting and interesting things they were learning.
And they were just having the time of their life.
But his least successful students?
They always talked about money.
I’m doing this because I want to make more money. And the reason why they wanted to make money? Well, the same reasons why everyone wants to make money.
But their motivations affected their actions.
And decisions.
And since they didn’t really enjoy what they were doing, it just bombed their creativity, and their ability to stick with stuff when it wasn’t working for them as quickly as they’d like it.
More:
I was watching this mini-documentary with one of Japan’s richest billionaires.
His name’s Yusaku Maezawa.
And you probably know him, because he was Elon Musk’s first space tourist, the first civilian “tourist” to get launched into orbit and fly by the moon, all the way onto the International Space Station with SpaceX.
Why did he do such an exciting stunt?
Because it sounded fun.
But the publicity made him even more money, even though he wasn’t doing it for that. He just wanted to have fun.
And I really admire the guy, because all his life, the way he made business decisions was by chasing after what’s fun. But literally, the more money he spent on fun, the more money he made. Which comes back to another thing my mentors always try to drill into me, which is that… the more money you spend, the more money you make. Which I often struggle with. Cause I’m frugal in that way.
He wanted to start his own rock band because it was fun.
And he did it.
And it became a huge success.
But then he got bored and it wasn’t fun anymore.
And he wanted to listen to albums from his favorite bands, but they weren’t selling them in Japan. So he imported them from the states. People wanted them too, so he sold them. And made millions. But then he wanted nicer clothes, so he started buying those and selling them too. And made even more millions.
And I don’t remember all the hundreds of things he did for fun…
… but every time he invested more into having fun, he made more coin. Even when he wasn’t trying to.
Which is just the way things work.
Because when you have more fun, you’re more creative. And when it’s fun for you, it’s fun for lots of other people, and they just want to join you.
But so it goes:
Struggling to make more coin?
Change the reason why you’re doing what you’re doing to…
… having more fun.
And if you’re not having fun doin’ what you’re doin’?
Either delete your business and do something else.
Or do it differently… so it’s fun to do.
But the caveat?
Make sure you’re doing the basics of business and moneymaking.
Namely:
Build a list, have great offers, have great bonuses, have great copywriting. All of which I harp on every day of the week. And which, if you keep in mind, will make you lots of coin no matter what you do… as long as you have fun.

P.S. I’m going through the 40+ books on my desk.
Trying to clear them fast as I can for my next work. But the pile ain’t budging. Because I just finished a couple of books, but a couple more new ones came that took their place.
Maybe I just gotta go faster…
